The Commodity Manager is responsible for the development, execution, and management of commodity strategies along with the associated global sourcing for commodities, goods and services to support our manufacturing and business operations. This position supervises a team of buyers to identify, qualify and manage a global supply base to provide the team’s assigned commodities.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute commodity strategies that best leverage supplier capabilities and the company’s procurement spend to meet corporate objectives (support our near term and long term) of quality, cost, delivery and customer service
  • Lead a commodity team to optimize and rationalize our supply chain, including the identification, qualification and management of new suppliers and related sourcing (re-sourcing, outsourcing) activities and negotiations activities to achieve business targets for quality, delivery and cost
  • Lead the global procurement of materials, services, and freight to support the development, NPI and mass production requirements
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers that facilitate a deep understanding of their organizations and capabilities to support short term and long term business needs
  • Liaise with product management and production planning to drive activities related to the timely and cost effective procurement of materials and services while meeting delivery and inventory targets
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to support procurement activities
  • Coordinate and support on-site supplier visits, assessments, audits, and continuous improvement opportunities to optimize total cost and address issues with supplier performance
  • Assess gaps in supplier performance and implement appropriate continuous improvement activities
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Design Engineering to source, select, and establish new suppliers, source new technologies, as well as resolve technical related issues and tasks
  • Negotiate and create global supply agreements with key partners to meet corporate objectives
  • Manage and develop the commodity team to ensure objectives are met and team members are engaged and high performing
  • Ensure KPIs and metrics are tracked and reported for the team’s primary goals and objectives
  • Generate various analyses and reports using ERP (SAP) and Excel (other software such as PowerBI?)
  • Manage and support SAP modules that are related to Procurement
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve other relevant business objectives such as meeting annual inventory targets
  • Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics (Identify skills/attributes required for this position which may include leadership, problem solving, interpersonal, communications, planning, team participation skills, and/or language requirements.)
  • Broad understanding of supply management and the commodities assigned; looked to as the “go-to expert” for the company and participating in the strategic direction of the organization
  • Highly motivated and self-driven with a focus on successfully delivering results for the team and meeting overall company goals. Demonstrated capacity acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage large amounts of data from various inputs and consolidate the information for critical business decisions (data analytics)
  • Demonstrated initiative and capability to manage multiple tasks independently with little direct supervision in a fast paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal, persuasion, influencing and collaboration skills required, working to build consensus with the ability to lead cross-business unit and cross-functional teams to create and execute commodity strategies.
  • Expert negotiation skills: ability to negotiate attractive business terms (e.g., pricing, SOI/VMI) with small to large suppliers while maintaining healthy, long-term supplier partnerships
  • Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities constantly and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to anticipate and identify issues or barriers and generate solutions, using high level of personal discretion in decision making.Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to create written communication that is properly structured providing clear, concise messages that draw well supported conclusions. Verbal communication skills required across all levels of the organization and with external vendors and suppliers.
  • Demonstrates in-depth understanding of the financial aspects of Supply Chain operations and knowledge and proficiency across multiple practices within the Supply Chain function to understand, coordinate and communicate across the competing demands of each.
  • Ability to anticipate, recognize and solve complex supply problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information
  • Agility to work within broad guidelines and policies in order to impact a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (Engineering with MBA is strongly preferred)
  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in manufacturing environment, of which minimum of 5 years in an Engineering role
  • Minimum of 5 years of strategic supplier sourcing analyses and execution
  • APICS or CPM Certification strongly preferred
  • Strong working proficiency with Microsoft Office, including expert level functionality with Excel
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working within and between ERP systems (SAP preferred), and analytics software (PowerBI, Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, etc.)
  • Knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Strong technical and business knowledge of, and experience in buying and sourcing in the segment served (i.e., motion control, electrical commodities / machined parts, sheet metal, mechanical assemblies, optical components and assemblies, plastics, and ceramics)

At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $101,000 and $160,000 provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.The base salary for the role will depend on a several job-related factors, including, but not limited to education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge and travel requirements for this position. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive in addition to a full range of benefits including 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program and paid time off including vacation, sick time and holidays, and more.
