Responsibilities

New opportunity for a Senior Application Scientist to serve as a scientific and technical leader within the Bruker BioSpin Preclinical Optical Imaging Team. This position supports BBIO PCOI customers while shaping the adoption and impact of Spectral’s preclinical optical imaging solutions.  Building on deep expertise in optical imaging and animal model development, this role blends technical applications support with customer training, scientific presentations, and strategic content development. The Senior Application Scientist will also partner closely with Sales, Marketing, and R&D to influence product positioning, thought leadership, and long-term customer relationships.

  • Deliver a world-class customer experience through expert scientific and technical support.
  • Lead advanced customer training on imaging systems and software for users across skill levels.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to customers on experimental design, optical reporter selection, and in vivo imaging optimization.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), collaborators, and strategic partners.
  • Represent Spectral and Bruker PCI at scientific conferences, workshops, and symposia; support collaborators in generating impactful talks, posters, and publications.
  • Partner with Marketing to create high-value content such as webinars, white papers, application notes, and scientific case studies.
  • Provide strategic feedback to R&D and Product Management, guiding future development based on customer needs.
  • Mentor other application scientists and contribute to the development of scalable training resources.
  • Drive the use of multi-modal preclinical imaging, in collaboration with Bruker PCI colleagues.
  • Perform onsite and remote demos, with both phantoms & small animal models.
  • Provide ongoing vivarium management support, and from time to time, run in vivo imaging experiments - generating data for internal and external customers.
  • Use SalesForce CRM and online platforms, like Microsoft Teams, to manage customer interactions and optimize travel efficiency.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a life science discipline (e.g., oncology, immunology, infectious disease, molecular biology) required.
  • Minimum 8 years extensive hands-on work experience involving in vivo optical imaging, animal model development, and reporter constructs.
  • Additional experience with other preclinical imaging modalities (MRI, mCT, PET, SPECT, US) is strongly preferred.
  • Proven successful work experience in a customer-facing scientific role (e.g., Field Applications Scientist, Technical Support, or Sales Support) with advanced reasoning, troubleshooting, scientific thinking and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with customers, collaborators and key opinion leaders in preclinical imaging field.
  • Strong verbal, written, computer, interpersonal, communication, teaching, presentation, and public speaking skills for diverse audiences along with active work experience participating in customer facing events and conferences.
  • Advanced technical writing skills to produce customer-facing content at an advanced scientific level and deliver customer-oriented support.
  • Proven ability to multitask, manage and deliver on multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced global work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with  customers on model development and other factors that may impact their in vivo imaging success.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Windows, SalesForce, and Digital Presentation tools (Teams, Zoom) to create and deliver documents, workbooks, presentations.
  • Operates at the highest standards of business ethics, honesty, and personal integrity
  • Possesses behavioral attributes such as agility, individual responsibility balanced with teamwork, collaboration, customer-orientation, tactful communication, flexibility, inspires trust and confidence, leading and developing people, results orientation, embraces change and innovation.
  • Ability to stand, climb, bend, reach, crawl, lift items weighing up to 75 lbs., and perform tasks under the equipment.
  • English language fluency required; knowledge of additional languages desirable. 
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete position compliance and training requirements.
  • Valid Driver License in good standing, issued by resident state required.
  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.
  • Reliable transportation with ability to maintain a valid passport and flexibility for global travel.
  • May be required to pass security clearance investigation.

 

At Bruker, the base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $120,000 and $160,000 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on several job-related factors, including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge, and travel requirements for this position. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive in addition to a full range of benefits, including 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program and paid time off including vacation, sick time and holidays, and more.
