Bruker Nano, one of Bruker’s four operating segments, provides customers in academic and governmental institutions, life science, materials, and applied industries with the tools to determine the characteristics of matter and visualize the structure of molecules. Divisions within BNANO include Bruker AXS, Bruker Nano Analytics, Bruker Nano Surfaces and Metrology, Fluorescence Microscopy, and Canopy.

 

We are seeking a talented Research and Development Manager to join our dynamic team. As a Research and Development Supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing RMR Laser systems and components. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to innovate and deliver high-performance solutions that meet our customers' needs and exceed industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Research and development of new processes for laser based additive and ablative photomask repair. Including;
  • Specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components. Planning and executing laboratory research.
  • Coordinating interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
  • Participating in the development of patent applications.
  • Work in close cooperation with electronics engineers, mechanical engineers, and software engineers to build and test prototype and production level laser photomask repair systems
  • Work with applications and field service groups to support laser based photomask repair systems. Including training, installation, product improvement and issue resolution
  • Support the production of technical marketing collateral including presentations and technical specifications
  • Assist in the development of product support documentation: assembly procedures, system manuals, spare parts lists, software specifications, white papers, and test procedures as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Become a key expert on Bruker Laser products for support of issues in production and at customer sites
  • Develop laser based additive processing capability on Bruker photomask platforms
  • Strong familiarity with key laser system components including lenses, ultrafast pulsed lasers, continuous wave lasers, harmonic generation devices, imaging systems, laser alignment tools and methods.
  • Proven technical management experience and coordination of development activities across multiple disciplines
  • Experience in managing product development activities from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules (in concert with management priorities) and monitoring budget/spending.
  • Experience with setup, calibration, and optimization of Class IV lasers – including Yb:KGW Carbide pulsed lasers CMB01-4H-R, and Semiconductor Continuous Coherent Genesis CX lasers

Qualifications

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Very good manual dexterity and an ability to work with precision parts
  • Normal vision and hearing and capable of lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Work routinely in Class 10000 clean room with minimal gowning
  • Work occasionally in Class 1 clean room full gowning protocol

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong conceptual understanding of lasers and optics as well as hands-on experience, with expertise in ultrafast laser ablation and photolytic/pyrolytic additive processes.
  • Knowledge of and ease of applying problem solving techniques
  • Logical thinker able to determine root causes by deduction and careful test design
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Experience in capital equipment manufacture a plus
  • Experience in photomask industry a plus

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 15% U.S. and international travel to customer sites to support system installations

 

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a BS degree or higher in engineering, applied physics or related field with 10 years experience, a MS with 7 years experience or a PhD with 4 years experience with relevant Laser / Optics work.

At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $104,000 and $186,000 and provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on a several job-related factors, including, but not limited to education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge and travel requirements for this position. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive in addition to a full range of benefits including 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program and paid time off including vacation, sick time and holidays, and more.
