About the Job


The Staff Electrical Engineer will support design, analysis, prototyping, test, documentation, and release of electrical equipment, components, and systems for our market leading Atomic Force Microscopes (AFMs). Responsibilities include the full range of product development tasks from concept through commercialization of analog and mixed-signal electronic designs for precision imaging and metrology instruments. This position requires strong initiative, effective cross-functional teamwork, a hands-on approach, and technical expertise. Preferred candidates will be self-starters with the ability to set goals and achieve them with limited supervision and have a high level for attention to detail. 

 

This position is based in Santa Barbara, CA.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Lead the evolution of AFM system control and data acquisition electronics.
  • Define overall electronics requirements, architecture, interfaces, and theory of operation.
  • Convert high-level system requirements into subsystem specifications.
  • Evaluate alternative design approaches by performing analysis, modeling, and trade studies.
  • Perform electronics design, analysis, prototyping, and system integration.
  • Select electronic components based on function, availability, reliability, and cost.
  • Work with functional teams to achieve reliable, manufacturable, serviceable, and testable designs.
  • Develop test plans and methodologies to objectively verify performance against requirements.
  • Design test fixtures to ensure compliance to product and manufacturing specifications.
  • Create product documentation, including BOM’s, fabrication files, and assembly drawings.
  • Conduct product and regulatory compliance testing.
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and failure analysis for new and existing product lines.
  • Document project decisions and provide appropriate cross-functional team communication.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with some or all:
    • Design, integration, and verification of analog and digital design.
    • System controls (e.g., motion, feedback), data acquisition, and analysis.
    • Power supplies (switching and linear) and high voltage designs.
    • Troubleshooting and debugging electronic circuits to the component level.
    • Printed circuit board design, analysis, assembly, and test.
    • FPGAs/microprocessor programming.
    • Standard electrical testing and measuring equipment.
    • OrCAD/Cadence Allegro, Altera/Quartus, and PSpice or similar
    • Electrical regulatory standards such as IPC, ISO, and CE (EMC & Safety).
  • Strong work ethic, team oriented, curious, creative, and committed to quality.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • At least 7 years of related work experience.

At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $104,400 and $186,000 provides an opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base salary for the role will depend on a several job-related factors, including, but not limited to education, training, experience, the geographic location of the successful candidate, skills, competencies, job-related knowledge and travel requirements for this position. Full-time employees may also be eligible for a performance-related incentive in addition to a full range of benefits including 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, medical and dental plans, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance, employee assistance program and paid time off including vacation, sick time and holidays, and more.
