Responsibilities

New opportunity based in Billerica, MA for a Field Application Scientist to collaborate with Sales on the delivery of pre-sales and after-sales application support for BBIO-AIC’s benchtop MR systems (TD-NMR, FT-NMR, and EPR) product solutions in the Americas Markets (US, CAN, MX).  Will ensure AIC Benchtop NMR/EPR distribution partners and sales team are fully updated on the solution portfolio and trained to successfully represent AIC in the market and contribute to the business (NOB) growth. Will also closely partner with existing and targeted Key Account Customers to shorten the sales cycle to close a Design-in and identify new and scalable business opportunities that build on the existing AIC’s product portfolio, technologies, and core capabilities (FT-NMR, TD-NMR and EPR benchtop product solutions).  

 

  • Collaborate with the AIC Global Sales Organization to deliver impactful pre-sales support in targeted Key Account and Value Based Dealers by performing instrument demonstrations, in house and on site customer training, in house and on site customer support, development of new methods, validation of new and existing methods.
  • Work closely with AIC Product Management, R&D, and Market Management by assisting in the production of manuals, marketing materials and other documentation; trade shows and conferences; maintaining demo laboratory instruments in peak performing condition; and supporting AIC’s Applications Development Team.
  • Collaborate with Product Marketing (EPR, TD-NMR, and FT-NMR) and with Americas Service and Support to define Installation and After-Sales-Support that gradually becomes self-sufficient. Deliver near term After Sales Support for Level 2 and Level 1 Applications as outlined.  
  • Support the Total Quality Management CAPA 1 and 2 escalation process when required, including testing, verification, and validation of R&D or service related revisions made to software or hardware products in the area of the FAS specialty.
  • Perform and/ or assist in instrument demonstrations.
  • Assist other Field Application Scientists with regular training of the AIC solutions portfolio.
  • Provide specific feedback on new market or customer requirements to the AIC Benchtop Applications Development team and NMR/EPR Product Management teams.
  • Perform and/ or assist in training sessions (in house and customer laboratories) which may include class room teaching and hands-on instrument training.
  • Perform customer support, including phone, email, and on-site travel support to customer laboratories.
  • Perform and assist in the production of manuals marketing materials and other documentation.
  • Develop new methods, validation of new methods.
  • Develop quality control standards and compliance with quality management at customer sites.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Molecular Biology, or Electrical Engineering. 
  • Minimum 2 years experience with pulsed NMR applications including Quality Assurance and Control Methods.
  • Excellent English oral and written communication along with advanced scientific writing, computer, technical, interpersonal communications and presentation skills. Familiarity with oral and written foreign languages helpful.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Windows including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint along with expertise in programs written by Bruker BioSpin Corporation, such as TopSpin and others.   
  • Advanced knowledge of Calculus with statistical methods and/ or chemometrics desired.
  • Advanced reasoning ability demonstrated through problem solving and troubleshooting, scientific thinking and teaching skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive and effective business relationships with parties at all levels, including supportive and responsive communication, technical accuracy with current issues and proposed solutions, professional and tactful ability to communicate urgency and priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain instruments in good operating condition and to perform troubleshooting and repair of systems and equipment as required.
  • Must be able to operate the NMR spectrometer including but not limited to changing samples and probes, exchanging components, installing or removing entire spectrometers.
  • This job requires working in close proximity to strong permanent magnets. Conditions such as pace makers or other electronic implants susceptible to magnetic fields create a risk that is not compatible with this job function. Due to the presence of very strong magnetic fields in the NMR applications area, certain medical devices are affected by these fields and individuals with such devices must be excluded from areas where such fields exist.
  • Proven ability to successfully complete position training requirements.
  • Valid Drivers’ License in good standing, issued by resident state required.
  • Valid Passport with ability for domestic and international travel required.
  • May be required to pass security clearance investigation.
  • Project Management Support
  • Travel up to 60% to customer sites in the Americas.
